Writing Your Book: From Start to Finish – review

Delegates at the Key Words Creative Writing Day on 8 July 2012

A group of more than a dozen delegates met at Cafe Society on 8 July 2012 to pick up tips and inspiration for writing their books.

The writers ranged from aspiring novelists to travel writers, as well as those writing memoirs, business books and even children’s books.

The morning session was presented by book doctor and creative writing expert Andrew Wille, who spoke to delegates about how to get started and find their writing voice, as well as setting some useful exercises.

After a light lunch, delegates heard from author Michael Stewart, who won The Guardian’s Not the Booker prize with his debut novel King Crow. The final session was with Helen Stothard of HLS Publishing, an expert in digital and self publishing.

The feedback was very positive on the day and afterwards.

“On a scale of 1-10 I would rate it as at least 8. It was very helpful and it was good to talk to other writers. I found the one to one session with Andrew particularly helpful – he helped me with something that I had been finding particularly tricky. It was good to have that bit of encouragement to get on and get writing!” Karen Warren

“The course was well conceived and professionally delivered. It catered well for the diverse interest of participants, who were clearly enjoying and valuing the experience – as was I.” Terry Piggott
